Insured Car Repairs at an Auto Industrial Estate: Expert Inspection, Approval and the Workshop

Our office is inside Maslak Atatürk Oto Sanayi Sitesi, one of the auto industrial estates (oto sanayi) where workshops of many specialisms work side by side. One of the questions we hear most is: “Can I have my insured damage repaired here?” The answer cannot be given in one word; it depends on your policy type, its workshop conditions and the expert inspection. For expats, the oto sanayi can look confusing at first, so this guide explains how an insured repair there generally works and where to be careful.

Check your policy first: what does the workshop condition say?

Kasko (comprehensive motor insurance) policies take different approaches to where repairs are done. Some accept only authorised dealer service, some only the insurer’s contracted network, others offer more flexible options. Some businesses in auto industrial estates are also part of insurers’ contracted networks. So your first step after damage is to learn your policy’s workshop condition. Our English guide on a contracted garage or cash settlement explains the general differences.

For damage claimed from the other party’s traffic insurance, the process follows that insurer’s procedure; again, expert inspection and repair approval are decisive. Once the route is clear, telling the insurer your workshop choice when you report the claim speeds things up. A workshop experienced in preparing the documents insurers ask for also keeps the file from dragging on.

The process step by step

  1. Claim notice: the accident or event is reported to the insurer and a file is opened.
  2. Choosing the workshop: a workshop that fits the policy terms is chosen and reported to the insurer.
  3. Expert appointment: the insurer appoints an expert (eksper) to inspect the car.
  4. Damage assessment: the expert records damaged parts and repair or replacement needs, with photos and a report.
  5. Repair approval: the workshop’s repair scope is compared with the expert’s findings and approved.
  6. Parts and repair: parts are sourced and the repair carried out within the approved scope.
  7. Handover and closing: the car is handed back, documents are added to the file and payment is completed.

During the expert inspection

The inspection is the most critical stage. Starting repairs before it makes an accurate assessment harder and can lead to disputes, so tell the workshop clearly: “do not dismantle before the expert comes.” During the inspection:

  • share your accident photos with the expert; the scene helps show the extent of the damage,
  • point out damage that may have been missed, such as problems you noticed inside or underneath,
  • if new damage appears during repair, make sure the workshop reports it to the insurer and asks for a further inspection.

The expert report is the key document of the file. If you disagree with its findings, send your objection with reasons, and photos if possible, through your adviser so it is on record.

Parts and labour: stay within the approval

The repair approval sets which parts are replaced and what work is done. Work outside the approval may not be paid by the insurer. Separate the approved work from anything you want done at your own cost, so there are no surprises on the invoice. Your policy also decides parts: some policies provide for original parts, others for equivalent parts. Asking at quote stage sets the right expectations.

Check before you collect the car

  • Has all approved work been done and have the parts that needed replacing been replaced?
  • Are the paint tone and panel gaps even?
  • Do lights, sensors, cameras and electrical equipment work?
  • Is any warning light left on the dashboard?
  • Do the invoice and work order match the approved scope?

If you notice something missing, tell the workshop and your adviser before collecting the car. For defects found after handover, contact the workshop and your adviser so the matter stays on record. You can ask to see the replaced parts. If you believe the car has lost value after the repair, that is a separate claim, which can arise especially when the other party was at fault; discuss it with your adviser.

Advantages of the oto sanayi — and what to watch

Bodywork, paint, mechanical and electrical work can often be coordinated between nearby businesses. What really matters in an insured repair, though, is whether the workshop works well with the insurer’s processes: invoicing, communication with the expert and document delivery directly affect how fast the file moves. See our comprehensive car insurance (kasko) in Maslak page for workshop conditions and cover. From our office inside the estate, we follow communication between the workshop and the insurer for our customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my car with kasko be repaired at an oto sanayi workshop?
It depends on your policy's workshop condition. Some policies accept only authorised or contracted workshops; some oto sanayi businesses are in insurers' contracted networks.
Can repairs start before the expert arrives?
It is best not to. Starting before the inspection makes an accurate damage assessment harder and can lead to disputes.
What happens if new damage is found during the repair?
The workshop should report it to the insurer and ask for a further inspection before working on it.
Are original or equivalent parts used?
This depends on your policy terms. Some policies provide for original parts, others for equivalent parts; ask at quote stage.
