Bahçeköy Insurance Step by Step: DASK, Home and Car

Living beside the forest in Bahçeköy: a suggested order for insurance, starting with DASK and the address code, then the home itself, then the car.

Bahçeköy lies in the north of Sarıyer next to the Belgrad Forest area and stands out for its green surroundings. Detached houses, homes with gardens and smaller apartment blocks sit side by side. What residents share is a life close to nature, connected to the city by car. Newcomers, including foreign families drawn by the quieter setting, often ask where to begin. This page suggests an order for dealing with insurance and the questions to ask at each step. It is only a suggestion; we decide the priorities for your home and car together.

Step one: secure your earthquake cover

DASK, the compulsory earthquake insurance, is required for registered homes under Law No. 6305 and is requested for electricity and water contracts and at the land registry. For detached houses it is especially important to enter the construction type and floor area correctly; a wrong declaration can cause trouble when you claim. If you have added a floor or an extension, check that the change is reflected on the policy.

When a DASK policy is issued, the address is matched to the national address database code, known as UAVT. In areas that still have a semi-rural character, where some streets were opened later, the address and the title deed record sometimes do not match, which can slow things down. If you have an electricity or water bill and a copy of the title deed, we can prepare the policy quickly. Aligning the DASK and home policy renewal dates also lets you finish both with a single renewal each year. More on DASK.

Step two: the house and everything in it

DASK covers only the building, only against earthquake and only up to a set limit. For contents, fire, water damage, theft and broken glass you need home insurance. For a detached house near woodland, we typically discuss:

  • The scope of fire cover, and setting realistic building and contents values
  • How damage from natural events such as falling trees or storms is treated on the policy
  • Naming extra areas such as the garden, garage and storeroom
  • Declaring security measures such as doors, windows and an alarm

Step three: the car that links you to the city

From Bahçeköy, work, school and shopping usually mean the car. Under Law No. 2918, the Highway Traffic Law, traffic insurance is compulsory; it pays for the harm you do to other people and their property. Your own car’s damage is a separate matter for kasko (comprehensive motor insurance). Fallen branches, flying stones or a cracked windscreen on forest-edge roads are matters for kasko, not traffic insurance. Find out when you buy the policy how towing and roadside assistance work if you break down. To avoid missing your traffic insurance expiry date, you can leave the renewal reminder to us.

A note for tenants

If you rent in Bahçeköy, DASK and building cover are the owner’s responsibility. Your priority is your own belongings and liability towards neighbours or the owner. If you rent a house with a garden, check who the lease makes responsible for maintaining the garden and outdoor areas; which policy responds to a loss can depend on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

I added a floor to my detached house in Bahçeköy. Do I need to update DASK?
Yes. DASK is based on the building's construction type and floor area, so an extension should be reflected on the policy. An incorrect declaration can cause problems at claim time.
If a tree in my garden falls on my house in a storm, will home insurance pay?
It depends on whether your policy includes storm and natural event cover and on its conditions. We check how each insurer treats falling trees before you choose a policy.
What happens if I miss the expiry date of my traffic insurance?
Driving without compulsory traffic insurance can lead to a fine, and you would face the cost of damage to others yourself. We can remind you before each renewal.
