Kireçburnu Insurance for Seafront Businesses and Residents
Most insurance questions in Kireçburnu come from seafront restaurant and café owners; the rest from residents who drive into the city every day.
Kireçburnu is a small, quiet stretch of the Bosphorus between Tarabya and Büyükdere. Restaurants and cafés line the shore, while the back streets hold apartment blocks and houses from different periods. Many of the insurance questions we receive here come from business owners, some of them foreign entrepreneurs who have opened a place by the water; the rest come from residents who drive into the city every day.
What should seafront businesses watch for?
If you run a restaurant, café or small kiosk, your risks are nothing like an ordinary office’s. Cookers and gas bottles in the kitchen raise the fire risk, and a full dining room brings liability towards third parties. When planning business insurance, we usually cover:
- Fire and kitchen damage: kitchen equipment, decoration and stock.
- Electrical breakdown: damage to fridges, freezers and till systems.
- Glass breakage: large glazed frontages are common on the shore.
- Third-party liability: for example, a customer slipping inside the premises.
- Winter and storms: the conditions for tables, umbrellas and awnings left outdoors.
How each cover appears differs between insurers; we compare options by looking at how your business really operates.
What to do if there is a loss
A small kitchen fire on a busy evening or a leak nobody notices overnight can stop you opening the next day. First make the place safe, then photograph the damage without moving anything and notify the insurer as soon as possible. Invoices for damaged equipment, stock records and till reports speed up the loss adjuster’s work, so keeping them in order beforehand pays off. We follow the process with you from notification to the adjuster’s assessment.
Homes: do not let DASK slip
Old and new buildings stand together in Kireçburnu. DASK, the compulsory earthquake insurance, is required for registered homes under Law No. 6305 and is requested for electricity and water contracts and land registry procedures. A situation we see often: the owner insures the restaurant but forgets to renew the DASK on the flat they live in. Following renewal dates together closes that gap. Remember too that DASK covers only the building. Contents, water damage from pipes or burglary need a separate home policy. In older buildings plumbing and roof damage come up more; in newer ones, contents and damage to neighbours.
Vehicles: keep traffic insurance continuous
For residents who drive to work and business owners using a supply van, traffic insurance is compulsory under Law No. 2918, the Highway Traffic Law. Missing the expiry date can mean a fine and a heavy financial burden if an accident happens. For vehicles used commercially, the type of use must be stated correctly on the policy. Damage while parked on the coast road is a matter for kasko (comprehensive motor insurance), not traffic insurance; if your car sits on the shore every day, that is worth considering. See traffic insurance for more.
