Documents Needed to Buy Insurance in Turkey: A Product-by-Product List

When you call for an insurance quote, the first question is usually: do you have the following details? With the right information ready, quotes are faster, policies are issued without errors and claims are less likely to be held up by missing data. This guide lists what is typically requested for the most common products. Insurers may ask for more, so treat it as a general framework.

The details you give are not just form-filling. They determine the conditions of your policy and how a claim will be assessed. Not declaring commercial use of a car, entering the wrong building details or leaving a condition off a health declaration can reduce or prevent a claim payment later. If you are unsure, check the document or ask your agency rather than guessing.

Information needed for every product

  • Turkish ID number; for foreign residents, the foreign ID number (Yabancı Kimlik No) or passport details,
  • for company policies, the company name and tax number,
  • a current phone number and email address,
  • an address for correspondence and the policy.

Car insurance: traffic, kasko and green card

Traffic insurance

For compulsory traffic insurance the following is usually enough:

  • the ruhsat (vehicle registration) or its details: plate, document serial number, chassis and engine numbers,
  • the registered owner’s ID or tax number,
  • the end date of any current policy.

For a newly bought car without registration yet, the sale document or invoice may be requested.

Kasko

For kasko (comprehensive car insurance), in addition you may need:

  • how the car is used: private, commercial or company car,
  • a list of non-factory accessories and equipment,
  • details of the previous kasko policy,
  • photos or an inspection for cars without previous kasko,
  • for financed cars, the lending bank’s details.

Green card insurance

Driving abroad requires a green card: the ruhsat details, the countries you will visit and your travel dates. The green card is compulsory motor liability insurance valid in member countries of the Green Card system; see our guide what is green card insurance.

Home and business insurance

DASK

DASK (compulsory earthquake insurance) is compulsory for registered homes under Law No. 6305. Usually requested:

  • title deed details: province, district, neighbourhood, block, map section and parcel,
  • the National Address Database address code,
  • building construction type, construction year range and number of floors,
  • the flat’s gross floor area,
  • any existing DASK policy number.

The address code may appear in official address records or some utility bills. See our DASK earthquake insurance page.

Home insurance

  • the address and building details, and whether you own or rent,
  • estimated building and contents values,
  • a list of valuables, electronics or artworks,
  • the current DASK policy details.

Business insurance

  • the business address, activity and tax registration details,
  • values of fixtures, fit-out, electronics and stock,
  • security measures such as alarms, cameras and shutters,
  • number of employees and any third-party liability needs.

Health and travel insurance

Private and complementary health insurance

  • ID details and date of birth for each person insured,
  • a fully completed health declaration form, and medical reports if needed,
  • details of any previous health policy,
  • for complementary health insurance, whether you are covered by SGK (the Social Security Institution).

Complementary health insurance covers the extra fees charged by private hospitals that have an agreement with SGK, under the policy conditions, so your SGK status is essential for this product.

Travel health insurance

  • passport details,
  • the country or countries you will visit,
  • travel start and end dates,
  • for visa applications, the consulate’s requirements.

Schengen visa applications require travel health insurance; check the consulate’s current requirements before applying.

Documents at claim time and good habits

At claim time you may be asked for an accident report or official record, ruhsat and licence for car claims; photos, invoices and possibly an official report for home and business claims; a police or gendarmerie record for theft; and invoices, prescriptions and reports for medical costs. Keep invoices and photos of valuable items in a digital folder, check that documents are current and legible, share them only with an agency or insurer you trust, and compare the issued policy with your documents.

You can send photos of your documents on WhatsApp for a quick quote. Call +90 530 375 89 61, with support in English, and we will prepare quotes from several insurers from our Maslak office.
